The Final Design

By Tyler DiPietro

Robert Crowther hasn’t opined on the latest “Expelled” goatfuck yet, but he is blathering as intelligent design creationists are wont to do. Today’s topic happens to be how Darwin caused Hitler:

Richard Dawkins has been ranting that he’s outraged (I’ll just bet he is) that Expelled exposes for all to clearly see the connection between Darwinism and Nazi ideology.

Of course, this kind of post could be the quadrillionth (give or take) reiteration of the obvious, i.e., fact that this is basically a bare-faced invokation of the genetic fallacy, the naturalistic fallacy and the ad hominem fallacy. But it is interesting that the IDers are so wont to label the final solution as a manifestation of “Darwinian” mechanisms. Let us all recall the basic defintion of “intelligence” IDers use, in their own words:

Intelligence – a characteristic of a phenomenon in which it is capable of undertaking the conceptualization and actualization of a plan and/or forward-thinking

There is a rather amazing double standard here. IDC’s are wont to dismiss selective breeding of animals and evolutionary computation techniques for, e.g., program optimization as examples of “intelligent design”. But when it comes to the Nazi genocide, which was an entirely premeditated attempt to breed a “master race” and secure Lebensraum for the Aryan people, that is an example of “Darwinism” at work. I would think that it would be, by their own definitions and past arguments, an example of “intelligent design”, but I’ve long ago learned not to expect intellectual honesty from these people.
