Blagger’s Block

By Tyler DiPietro

I recognize that my output has dropped significantly in quality as of late, and that’s more or less because I’m simply not feeling moved to post much right now. I have the foresight to realize that that will change eventually, but right now I got a bad case of writer’s block, and everything I write looks bland and uninspired to me. Nonetheless, If you have a topic you’d like me to comment on, you are always free to drop it in the comments or request it by email. Maybe some of you can help drag me out of this malaise.

I was looking forward to hearing more about Shermer’s Mind of the Market, so if you wanted to share any brief thoughts, that’d be cool (but I can totally grok the feeling that everything is coming out bland).

I’ve been reading cognitive and atheist and rational blogs for a while, I’ve only seen this idea (maybe) addressed once and it was labeled a “non-starter.” I don’t understand why. Maybe someone can explain or point me to a link?

Seems many–if not most–Christians are perfectly happy with the theory of evolution. But, if evolution is true then there never was an Adam and an Eve in the Garden. Without A&E there is no “fall from grace”, no “original sin.” Without “original sin” there is no need for salvation. Without the need for salvation Jesus becomes pointless (and tragic) and all of Christianity comes tumbling down like the Tower of Babel.

I do not understand how someone can say they are Christian and also accept evolution.

    Thanks,
    Mitch

Here’s a gift for you: a bit of crackpottery that I found through StumbleUpon and have been meaning to tackle:

The Enigma of Coulomb’s Law and Free Energy

Nothing gets the creativity flowing like a little crackpottery!

Thanks for the material, I think I will tackle that, Skulls. And for Blake, the review is already in the works, but I like to go over book reviews to make sure I get page citations and quotations and sourcing correct, so that takes a while.

    Understood.

Apropos, I need to get my writing circuits to work on my review of Sokal’s Beyond the Hoax. It’s really good, but also really thoroughly footnoted; I think a few points will have to be addressed in subsidiary blog posts.
